Our Home Buyer Workshops and One-on-One Counseling program is designed to help you become a successful homeowner.
DMCC’s curriculum was designed to comply with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) requirements, as well as the National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling, of which DMCC is an Approved Adopter. HUD requires consumers to receive a minimum of 8 hours of counseling and education, in any combination, in order to qualify for most of their programs.
Our program consists of 6 hours of education in a group workshop format, followed by a 2 hour one-on-one counseling session with a DMCC certified housing counselor. Your counseling session may be conducted at DMCC’s office face-to-face or over the telephone, whichever you choose. Please note that some loan programs may require the counseling session to be conducted face-to-face, so please check with your lender before you begin to make sure the counseling method you choose will qualify you for their program.
Certificates of Course Completion
At the successful completion of our program you will receive a 6 hour certificate of completion for the education segment and a 2 hour certificate of completion for the counseling segment. You will need to present these certificates to your lender in order to qualify for assistance.
Program Fees
DMCC charges a non-refundable fee of $25 for an individual or couple to attend one of its home buyer workshops. The fee is to cover DMCC’s cost to host the event and must be paid at least 1 business day in advance of the workshop to be attended. Credit cards, debit cards, checks and money orders are acceptable.
There is no fee or charge for the 2 hour counseling session.
