Our Home Buyer Workshops and One-on-One Counseling program is designed to help you become a successful homeowner.
DMCC’s curriculum was designed to comply with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) requirements, as well as the National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling, of which DMCC is an Approved Adopter. HUD requires consumers to receive a minimum of 8 hours of counseling and education, in any combination, in order to qualify for most of their programs.
Our program consists of 6 hours of education in a group workshop format, followed by a 2 hour one-on-one counseling session with a DMCC certified housing counselor. Your counseling session may be conducted at a DMCC office face-to-face or over the telephone, whichever you choose. Please note that some loan programs may require the counseling session to be conducted face-to-face, so please check with your lender before you begin to make sure the counseling method you choose will qualify you for their program.
Certificate of Course Completion When you obtain a pre-approval from your lender for a mortgage loan, we will provide them a certificate indicating your successful completion of our 8 hour homebuyer education program. This certificate will be required for you to obtain the financial assistance you are applying for.
