Lighthouse Point, FL (PRWEB) December 30, 2013

Debt Management Credit Counseling Corp.http://www.dmcconline.org, a nonprofit credit counseling organization (DMCC), announced today that it has received the Business Partner of the Year Award from the School District of Palm Beach County for 2013. The award was presented to Jason Athas, DMCC Manager of Educational Programs, for providing Excellence in Adult Education. DMCC has been supporting the Adult Education Center in West Palm Beach by teaching its students financial literacy, including budgeting, credit, banking, and identity theft, for over 10 years at no charge to the school or students.

DMCC has been providing free financial literacy education to high school and college students in South Florida since 2002 as part of its charitable mission. Financial literacy has not been a required curriculum in the State of Florida, so many schools and teachers have depended on nonprofit organizations such as DMCC to provide this education to their students. “We work with and support the schools by rolling up our sleeves and teaching their students how to navigate their daily financial responsibilities,” said Athas. “The students have a need for this knowledge and welcome us with open arms.”

In addition to providing classroom instruction, DMCC has its own online financial literacy course Debt, Money & Credit Concepts that teachers throughout the country may utilize at no charge. The online course has 15 independent modules that can be assigned by teachers to their students at their discretion. Many teachers have utilized this course to help their students understand the various financial decisions they will encounter following graduation. School administrators and teachers interested in taking advantage of this free service should contact the DMCC Education Department by calling 954-418-1466 or sending an email to education@dmcconline.org.
