HUD Approved Multi-State Organization<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

DMCC is approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide comprehensive housing counseling to residents of Florida and New York, including pre-purchase counseling and homebuyer education, non-delinquency post purchase counseling, mortgage delinquency and default resolution counseling, financial literacy, educational workshops, reverse mortgage counseling, and service for the homeless.<\/p>\n

All housing counseling programs include free assistance with implementing affordable repayment plans for federal student loans and Florida payday loans. Counseling services are provided by certified counselors employed by DMCC, and are available in English, Spanish and Creole.<\/p>\n

National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling have drawn upon a variety of sources, including existing standards used by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and local, regional, and national housing counseling organizations. Input on the Standards was gathered by the Advisory Council for the National Industry Standards from many industry partners, including national lenders, Government Sponsored Enterprises, HUD, mortgage insurers, executive directors and counselors of local, regional, and national organizations.<\/p>\n

The National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling focus on a set of six core areas.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Competency<\/strong>, including strong knowledge of the home buying process, money management, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Training<\/strong>, with recommendations for a minimum number of hours of training.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Code of Ethics and Conduct<\/strong>, which practitioners should sign and abide by.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Skills<\/strong>, including communication and listening skills, adult education and facilitation skills.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Operational Knowledge<\/strong>\u00a0regarding programs, marketing, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Performance Standards<\/strong>\u00a0for practitioners, which include standards curriculum, recordkeeping,\u00a0and reporting<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
